5 Projects Funded with Fall Spruce Up Grant

The 2021 Fall Spruce Up Grant, a cycle of the Build Up Marietta building improvement grant program, officially closed on Thursday, October 14th with a total of 9 applications from downtown business and building owners ranging through exterior and interior improvements.

Of the 9 applications, 5 were awarded from a total fund of $3,500 thanks to Peoples Bank Foundation and West Virginia Central Federal Credit Union. In the 2021 Fall Spruce Up Grant cycle, the funds awarded will leverage an investment of over $12,000 into downtown building care and maintenance.

We’re proud to announce the below award recipients of the 2021 Fall Spruce Up Grant:

  1. Gator’s Pub, 109 Second Street | Funding towards the replacement of a garage door, enhancing employee utility and business security

  2. Mid-Ohio Valley Players, 229 Putnam Street | Funding towards the enhancement of the facade, including glass window replacement, security doors, lighting, and entryway enhancements

  3. O’Neill Senior Center, 333 Fourth Street | Funding towards the insallation of a new entryway awning to both increase the beauty of the facade and the safety for seniors entering the service center

  4. The Cozy Kitchen, 114 Putnam Street | Funding towards the purchase of outdoor dining furniture

  5. Wit & Whimzy, 154 Front Street | Funding towards the installation of new signage

To date, the Build Up Marietta program has awarded funds to 27 different projects since 2017 through 8 different grant cycles. The total awards funded is $37,727.19, leveraging an investment of over $187,000 into downtown building care, maintenance, and improvement.

The total amount of funds requested to date is $129,922.10, which equals only 29% of funding requests awarded through this program. As such, new sponsors and funding opportunities are being sought after to continuously fund projects through this program and to increase the amount of funding awarded in any cycle.
