The Paintings of August James Weber: A One Night Only Exhibit

  • Perry & Associates 313 Second Street Marietta, OH 45750 (map)

August James Weber (1888-1958) is one of the most significant artists to have called Marietta his hometown. Weber exhibited unusual artistic talent as a school boy, to the extent that his business-oriented German family sent him to Cincinnati to study with some of the leading American art instructors of the time. From 1907 until 1930, Weber was active in that vibrant urban art scene. When he returned home to Marietta to help care for his ailing mother, he continued to paint and experiment with new expressive techniques, and provided art instruction to local artists. Recognized today as a talented proponent of modernist techniques and forms, his artwork can be found in established art galleries across the region.

Our One Night Only Exhibit on Thursday, August 1st from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Perry & Associates will feature four paintings by August James Weber from The Castle’s collections, as well as a Weber painting owned by the Washington County Historical Society. Additionally, paintings by several local painters believed to have been Weber’s students in Marietta will be featured, including views of local scenes and people, also from The Castle collections.

This evening exhibit will be an opportunity to see both the Weber and student work together for the very first time in a public setting.

Attendance is free, though donations at the door are encouraged as this is a fundraising event for both The Castle and Marietta Main Street.
