Our purple petunias are up on their poles all throughout our commercial district in Marietta! And, this year, each lamp post features gift tags highlighting flower sponsors who purchased baskets In Honor Of or In Memory Of their mother or a special someone in their life.
Much gratitude must be shared for recent accomplishments thanks to the dedicated hands and hearts of our volunteers, who arrive downtown at 6 a.m. on Wednesday, May 9th to hang 290 flower baskets and install 250 gift tags on downtown lamp posts.
For those of you who followed Marietta Main Street last year, you may know how trying the flower program was on our organization.
From having a committed watering & maintenance plan turned on its head within weeks from basket hanging (twice) to needing quick funding to fill the need of watering & maintenance and then to our watering tractor needing repairs a handful of times, the thought of hanging flowers this year was daunting and tiresome from last year's view.
But, thanks to the hard work, passion, and vision of our volunteers, our downtown flower program is back and better than ever!
In honor of our volunteers, we'd like to take a brief moment and share our true gratitude to members of our community for lending a hand.
+ To Debbie & Becky, owners of Twisted Sisters Boutique, for giving countless hours to spreadsheets of gift tags, cutting & hole punching gift tags, and ultimately zip tying, even until 11 p.m., even starting at 5 a.m.
+ To Mary, owner of Edward Jones Financial Advisors on Putnam Street and Chair of Main Street's Design Committee, for coordinating with Huck's Greenhouse, lining up trailers, and confirming volunteers to hang flowers
+ To Courtney, owner of Slice of Life Bakery, for sharing an idea that turned into the Mother's Day Fundraiser thanks to our Design Committee
+ To Sylvi, owner of American Flags & Poles, for always being present when needed, for lending out ladders to all, and offering support
+ To Laura, owner of Wit & Whimzy, Sarah, owner of Clutch MOV, & Judy, professional volunteer extraordinaire, for zip tying gift tags and tracking locations for our sponsors
+ To Ryan and Hallie, owners of Marietta Adventure Company, and their MAC Crew, for transporting flowers, hanging flowers, and bringing friends along with smiles on their faces
+ To Teri Ann, owner of Teri Ann's, Trisha & Dave, of Platinum Salon & Spa, to Claire & Moon & Barry, of Over the Moon Pub & Pizza and Marietta Office Supply, to Sara B. of Marietta Noon Lions, Mark D. and Melanie S. of Kiwanis Club of Marietta, Brad T. of First Presbyterian Church of Marietta, and Lyndsay B. & her mom Steph of Wildroot Flower Company, for being present and at the ready to help as needed, getting each of our flower baskets up on our lamp posts
+ To all of our basket sponsors, we sold out at 250 available to the community and because of that, raised $12k of about a $15k budget for flowers
+ To Harmar Elementary School staff, for laminating our gift tags with love
+ To Jay Huck and his team at Huck's Greenhouses for planting and growing the flowers on our poles today and for taking over watering & maintenance of our flowers the whole summer through
Without every single person who offered their time, these accomplishments would not have been achieved. We truly appreciate every minute offered by our volunteers, and invite all who are able to join us in sharing gratitude!
