We are over the moon to welcome Morgan to the Main Street team this summer as an intern with a strong background in many of the things Main Street cares so much about. Morgan will be a tremendous asset to our work this summer. Check out her introduction below!
My name is Morgan DeCicco, and I am excited to announce that I will be interning with Marietta Main Street for the summer of 2018. I graduated from Parkersburg South High School in 2015. I am currently a senior at West Virginia University where I am completing a Bachelor of Science in Design Studies from the Davis College of Agriculture, Natural Resources, and Design along with minors in Entrepreneurial Studies, Communication Studies, and Sustainable Design. At WVU, I am an active member of the Delta Gamma Fraternity - Alpha Xi Chapter where I served as the Director of Chapter Archives in 2017. I also served as an Undergraduate Teaching Assistant for WVU’s Department of Communication Studies in the spring of 2017. I recently earned my LEED Green Associate credential from the U.S. Green Building Council.
With hopes of someday owning a small business of my own, I am passionate about creating and sustaining a thriving downtown community. My dream is to one day open a bookstore with a coffee shop or café inside (maybe even a small art studio as well!), and I would love to have the opportunity to return to this area to do so.
I have spent the past two summers participating in the Parkersburg Area Community Foundation’s Civic Leader Fellowship Program. Through this program, I was assigned to work with the City of Vienna. My favorite thing that I did while in Vienna was planning and working the Vienna Family Fun Weekend events. I also assisted in the planning of many other Vienna events that would be held throughout the year including Movies at the Pool, Dog Swims, Zumba events, etc. However, my work was not limited to event planning. I spent a lot of time at the Vienna Senior Health and Wellness Center where I taught and assisted in fitness classes including chair yoga, water aerobics, chair volleyball, pickleball, and Silver Sneakers fitness training. I attended City Council meetings and Budget and Finance meetings. I worked on the city’s quarterly newsletter and collaborated with other staff members on social media efforts and strategies. I even spent some days cleaning up the landscaping in Spencer Park and the Neale Cook Cemetery. I truly had my hand in a little bit of everything!
During my time with Marietta Main Street, I will be working on several projects. The one that I am the most excited about is the creation of a walking guide map that includes all of the public art in the area. I am also excited to have an active part in running the Farmers Market on Front Street every Tuesday (come see us for some homemade goods and homegrown produce!). Throughout the summer you will be able to find me in the Main Street office, attending Community Meetings, at the Farmers Market, at First Friday Events, sitting along the river enjoying my lunch or a good book on a sunny day, popping in and out of downtown businesses, or just walking the streets of Marietta exploring this beautiful town. I am looking forward to meeting as many people in the Marietta community as I can, so don’t be afraid to come say hi!
