October First Friday Round-Up

School is back in session and fall is officially here! Our local school district - Marietta City Schools - is ready to celebrate our community with MCS Tigers Night in downtown Marietta. Shops will be open late showing off their latest merchandise, local restaurants will feature a variety of specials, and local groups will be guests inside businesses, on the lawn of the Armory, and around town. + MCS Alumni Photo Booth

Where: Twisted Sister's Boutique

Time: 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.

What: Look for your photo in the yearbook, get your picture taken, & have some fun reminiscing with the Marietta Alumni Foundation! Click here to learn more.

+ Key Club & Jack-O-Lantern Toss

Where: Wit & Whimzy

Time: 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.

What: Key Club will have a "Jack O Lantern Toss" game along with lots of activities throughout downtown! Join Wit & Whimzy to greet the club and shop local. Click here to learn more.

+ Fright Fest

Where: Mid-Ohio Valley Players

Time: 5 p.m. to 11 p.m.

What: MOVP will be giving away two pairs of tickets to a performance of "Dracula"! Members of their youth and junior players will be in costume in front of the theater during First Friday. They will also have surprises and a special "selfie booth" for pictures. Click here to learn more.

Where: Nacho Average Taco

Time: 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

What: Spin the wheel to win a variety of prizes and discounts, including things such as 10% off your order, free tacos every week for the rest of the year, gift cards to local businesses, grab bags and more! Click here to learn more.

Where: Wit & Whimzy

Time: 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.

What: It's time to share your Marietta High School secrets! Stop by Wit & Whimzy and write on their "Classroom Confession" board--that secret crush, your favorite teacher, the big prank you pulled---it's just for fun and it all disappears after 9:00! Click here to learn more.

+ Grand Opening of a New Business!

Where: Platinum Salon & Spa

Time: 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

What: Join downtown in celebrating the opening of a new business downtown! The Grand Opening celebration will feature live music, snacks, free giveaways, and drawings. Click here to learn more.

+ Celebrating Marietta City Schools

Where: Riverside Artists Gallery

Time: 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.

What: On display will be the Harmar Elementary School Student Art Show, an exhibit of the talents of Ms. Fackelman’s kindergarten through 5th grade students. The Gallery will also welcome a special guest artist, writer Sherolyn Porter, a graduate of Marietta High School, class of '77. She will be signing her newly released memoir, Reflections From the Sunroom: a Journey of Personal Discovery. Marietta’s class of '77 produced two more talented visual artists, Cara Noland and Carol Love, who will display their line of fine jewelry. Click here to learn more.

+ Dracula at MOVP

Where: Mid-Ohio Valley Players

Time: 8 p.m.

What: When the lovely Lucy Seward, whose father is the doctor in charge of an English sanitarium, is attacked by some mysterious illness, Dr. Van Helsing, a specialist, believes that the girl is the victim of a vampire, a sort of ghost that goes about at night sucking blood from its victims. The vampire is at last found to be a certain Count Dracula. This play is intended for all who love thrills in the theater, and is appropriate for all audiences. Rated PG. Click here to learn more.

+ Fill the Bus for GoPacks!

Where: Armory Lawn

Time: 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.

What: Help fill the bus for GoPacks, a local organization focusing on fighting food insecurity in Marietta. Donations will be collected in a variety of downtown businesses and at the Armory lawn, in a school bus! Plus, GoPacks will give away trophies to the 2 Partners-in-Ed who collected the most food and supplies during the 2017 Drive Challenge. Click here to learn more.

+ High Schools That Rock & Open House

Where: Peoples Bank Theatre

Time: 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.

What: High Schools That Rock will be jamming in front of Peoples Bank Theatre as part of First Friday: October - MCS Tigers Night! Plus Peoples Bank Theatre will be hosting a First Friday open house, with artwork by Beth Nash Art on exhibit in the auditorium gallery.  Click here to learn more.

+ "Are You Smarter Than a Phillips Student?" Scavenger Hunt

Where: Armory Lawn & Downtown

Time: 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.

What: Test your knowledge with this MCS Tiger-themed downtown scavenger hunt! Find clues in 10 different participating businesses and be entered to win a number of prizes. Start at the Armory to get your scavenger hunt sheet and learn the rules of participation!

+ Lafayette Hotel Evening Ghost Tour

Where: Historic Lafayette Hotel

Time: 6 p.m.

What: The Lafayette Hotel and Hidden Marietta present The Haunted Hotel Walking Ghost Tour. Tickets are $15 per person and are on a first come first serve basis. And for an extra spooky bonus, they are throwing in a 15-20 minute ghost tour in the Lafayette's haunted basement. Ghost hunting equipment is welcome but can also be provided. Learn more here.

+ DJ Night with M&M Soundwaves

Where: Marietta Wine Cellars

Time: 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

What: Join Marietta Wine Cellars as they welcome back M&M Soundwaves DJ night here! If you are looking for a great DJ for an event, here is your chance to stop and check it out!
